5 Self-Care Tips for Better Mental Health

Repeat after us: self-care isn’t selfish.
At WBK Fit, mental health is just as important as physical health. We love to uplift #WBKgirls and take them through a journey of self-love.

Taking care of your mental health is SO important to boost your mindset, decrease anxiety, and help you shine in all areas of your life. But we get it, sometimes making time for self-care can be a major struggle, especially whilst trying to balance all of life’s commitments.

In honour of World Mental Health Day, we want to share our top 5 ways you can incorporate self-care into your daily routine to boost your mental health and feel your best!

#1 Move your body

Working your fitty goals doesn’t just help your body, it helps your mind too!

All types of exercise helps reduce stress and anxiety, and boosts mood by increasing levels of endorphins and serotonin which make you feel happier!

Moving your body every day for at least 30 minutes is optimal, whether it's a WBK Fit workout, a walk, or yoga.

Give these morning yoga poses a try to kick start some self-care into your day!

#2 Prioritise relaxing time

Trying to balance work, study, social life and so much more can mean that your calendar is always mega full. Whilst being busy is inevitable, it is SO important to actually schedule in and prioritise some downtime.

This means that you can give yourself permission to stay ‘no’ sometimes. It’s okay to skip out on a few social events to allow yourself time to rest and recharge instead!

#3 Practice meditation

Meditation is such a fast and effective way to reduce stress, anxiety and help reset your mind. The best part is, you can practice meditation anywhere and at any time! Whether you choose to meditate in the morning, during your lunch break, or in the evening, you’ll be giving your mind the opportunity to recharge. You’ll feel so much better afterwards!

“I love listening to podcasts, doing affirmations, and meditation. It really centers me and allows my mind to relax. I also love journaling. Mental health has a lot to do with being overwhelmed so writing things out really helps declutter the brain” - Hailee

#4 Eat more plant-based foods

Nourishing your body really does help nourish your mind.

Consuming a diet rich in plant-based foods increases your vitality and wellbeing. Plant-based foods are high in essential vitamins and minerals that have been shown to enhance your mood.

You don’t need to eat strictly plant-based to get the benefits though. Just be sure to incorporate lots of wholesome foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains and legumes into your diet for optimal benefit!

“Cooking is one of my fav ways to practice self-care. It makes me feel like I’m doing something really good for myself” - Katya

#5 Pamper yourself

Nothing feels more luxe than pampering yourself - you gotta take care of yourself, boo!

Take time each and every day to do your AM and PM skincare routine. You can also use a face mask, hair mask, body scrub, give yourself a mani-pedi - the options are endless!

To make it even more relaxing, diffuse some essential oils such as lavender, lemon, or chamomile which have been shown to help reduce anxiety.

“I like to do face masks, light candles and have a bath! I also like to take myself out to dinner as a way of treating myself!” - Elise
