Get Your Goals Back On Track

Does this scenario sound familiar? You started off the year with BIG goals and ideas of how it was going to unfold. We are just a few weeks in and it feels like it has completely gone out the window. Girl, I know how you are feeling, and believe me it is completely normal for this to happen! Yes it can be disheartening, yes you can be frustrated in yourself for not having the mental strength to have achieved these goals, and yes you might be a little mad at yourself for giving up. But I am going to tell you right now that those goals aren’t that unachievable or unattainable. Instead of dwelling on the past, and thinking those negative thoughts around being a ‘failure’, it’s time to take action and get back on track! The first step is to figure out why you have fallen off track. Were the goals you set –

• Unachievable?

• Were they too long term?

• Not specific enough?

• Not broken down into achievable chunks?

• Not supported by a plan?

When setting your goals you need to ensure they are realistic, otherwise, it is just far too easy to give up before you’ve even tried. One of the key tips I can give is to think back to when you have previously achieved a specific goal. Think about the parameters of that goal and the reasons you were able to achieve it. We can learn so much from our past experiences, our failures as well as our mistakes. There is no point in going too extreme with your goals. I think we can all relate to the feeling of deflation when you set an unrealistic goal that you don’t even get close to achieving. Start being more of a realist of what is achievable with your circumstances. Which leads me onto my next tip for goal setting.

Set a close enough time frame that you aren’t going to forget about. If it is a large goal that isn’t possible to achieve within the coming months, then break it down. Set a smaller goal as a benchmark to work towards, then another and so on until you do reach that larger-scale goal. This is one of the reasons as a coach that I make my programs in 8-week and 6-week training blocks. I know that within these time frames that my clients are able to set specific goals that can be absolutely attained within this time frame. I apply this method to training, nutrition, work and life!

Re-assess if the goal still aligns with what you really want. Is this goal still a priority for you? Have your lifestyle factors changed? Or maybe your values have changed! If your heart isn’t in the goal, then it is too easy to give up on it. So make sure that you are passionate about what you are hustling for, so that you are more likely to stay on track. “goals Follow a plan! If your goal is based around saving money, then working out a budget is absolutely necessary. If you don’t know where your money is going, then it is likely that you will be going in circles. Whereas if you have a spreadsheet that shows exactly where your money is going, you can delegate it a lot easier and saving goals will be much more achievable. If your goal is based around health and fitness, then following a structured health regime will help you to reach those aspirations.

My training and meal plans are designed to be progressive, so you know that you will be seeing results across the weeks. I also provide you with tips and heaps of educational information so you will be learning along the way. I hope that these tips help you to get back on track with your goals.

The last thing I want you to remember is that there is absolutely no point in punishing yourself for not achieving a specific goal! It happens to everyone and is totally normal, the key is acknowledging that it happened and learning from your experiences. As a part of growth as a person, we have to be able to recognize everything that has happened in the past and learn from it for the future. Be kind to yourself girls, and you will be more motivated than ever!
