5 Reasons Why You Should Start Running

Think you're not fit enough to start running? Think again. I thought the same thing when I started my running journey. Little did I know that I’d end up running a marathon! Running is one of those things that people either love or hate - but I promise, if you haven’t given running a try yet, this is your sign to start.

Think you're not fit enough to start running? Think again. I thought the same thing when I started my running journey. Little did I know that I’d end up running a marathon!

Running is one of those things that people either love or hate - but I promise, if you haven’t given running a try yet, this is your sign to start.

Here are 5 reasons why you should start running!

#1 Helps with fat loss

Running is a type of cardiovascular exercise that works your entire body, including the largest muscles in your body like your glutes and quads. Running burns a lot of energy, which helps to burn excess calories and stimulate fat loss.

#2 Boosts your mood

Let me tell you, a ‘runner’s high’ is a real thing! Running gives you a sense of euphoria that lasts well after the run has finished. This is because running releases endorphins that make you feel happier. I can honestly say that running makes me feel less stressed, gives me mental clarity, and genuinely elevates my mood.

#3 Improves your metabolic health

Metabolic health means the ability of the body to process and generate energy in the body. Typically, metabolic health is examined through testing blood sugar levels, cholesterol and other metabolic factors.

Running has been shown to:

  • Reduce body fat and waist circumference
  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Reduce cholesterol and fat found in the blood (triglycerides).

#4 You can run anytime, anywhere

Running is one of the most accessible workouts out there. You can run no matter where you are, at any time of the day. What’s also great is that running workouts are quick and effective, making it perfect for those in a time crunch. Going for a run can be a super convenient way to get active.

#5 Helps you sleep better

We all know how important sleep is, but for a lot of us, getting quality sleep is a struggle. Doing regular exercise has been shown to improve sleep quality and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. This is SO important, because getting adequate sleep is needed for your body to reset its metabolism, regenerate hormones, and help create a healthier version of you.

If you have never run before, now is the time to start. At the start of my running journey, I was so unfit. I would get so out of breath, but I didn’t let that stop me - and you shouldn’t let that stop you either!

Let me show you the exact methods I used to go from complete beginner to running my first 3 miles in my brand new program RUN with Elise. Designed for beginners, I will guide you through 8 weeks of jogging, sprinting, and strength training to have you run your first 3 miles too!

I can’t wait for you to fall in love with running, just like I did!

Elise xx
