Say gooddbyeee to boring cardio!
Sometimes cardio can totally feel like a chore, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it! Cardio is super beneficial to improve fitness and to help reduce body fat.
Maybe you’ve been putting off doing cardio or you cut your sessions short because you lose interest. But guess what - there are HEAPS of exciting ways to increase the fun factor of these heart pumping workouts!
Been wondering how you can make cardio less annoying and more enjoyable? Here are 5 ways that are guaranteed to make cardio more fun!
Pick the right tunes 🎵
Music seriiouussllyyy makes cardio so much more fun! You will find yourself getting immersed into your workout if you are listening to music that pumps you up. Be sure to listen to the type of music that gets you in the mood to sweat it out!
Not only does music help give you the energy and motivation to keep exercising, but you can use the beat to help keep your pace up! For example, if you’re on a stationary bike, you can pedal to the same rhythm as the song.
To save yourself having to scroll through your music and pick songs one by one, make sure you create a cardio workout playlist!
Change up your cardio routine
Do all your cardio sessions involve just walking on the treadmill? No wonder why you’ve been getting bored!
If you’re a gym trainer, try different cardio machines like elliptical, rowing machine, stair climber and stationary bike. You can also use the gym floor space or your home/outdoor workout space to do your own HIIT style workout using battle ropes, kettlebells, medicine balls, jump rope, and dumbbells!
Mix up your location!
Doing your cardio in the same place can feel a bit repetitive. Especially if you’re like most people and always use the exact same machine at the gym (*the elliptical in the second row, 3rd from the left* 😜).
Whilst the gym has all the fancy machines, don’t forget that you can do cardio outside too! In fact, outdoor workouts are one of Elise’s fav places to do her cardio. Plus, the natural air can help cool you down whilst you're working up a sweat. So get outdoors, and see how much it can help mix things up!
Vary the cardio exercise style
There are more than one type of cardio girls! Within the cardio world, there are actually a few different styles that you can integrate into your sessions to vary things up!
Give these styles a try. Trust us, you’ll have no time to be bored doing these:
- AMRAP (as many reps as possible) = This involves doing an exercise for a certain period of time, completing as many reps as possible within the time frame. For example, doing 1 minute of squat jumps AMRAP, means doing as many reps of squat jumps that you can do in 1 minute!
- EMOM (every minute on the minute) = This means you complete a certain number of reps within 60 seconds. If you’ve completed your reps in less than a minute, then you use the remaining time to rest. If not, no rest - you move onto the next exercise when the next minute starts. For example, you could do 15 burpees EMOM. If you finish 15 burpees within 45 seconds, then you get 15 seconds rest, before the next minute starts again!
